Common questions about Mica in plastic & polymer applications
Mica acts as a high-performance functional filler in plastics, improving stiffness, dimensional stability, thermal resistance, electrical insulation, and barrier properties. Its platy structure helps reduce shrinkage and warpage while enhancing surface finish, gloss, and mechanical strength in engineering and commodity plastic compounds. It also improves heat deflection temperature and contributes to better durability and processability in polymer applications.
Our micronized Mica grades are available in different particle size ranges to suit various polymer applications. Typical grades include Micron Mica 1240 PY with D50 around 4–5 microns and Micron Mica 4010 PY with D50 around 6.5–7.5 microns. Additional grades such as Micron Mica 1030, 1240, 2080, and 4010 are also available for customized performance requirements in plastics.
Our high purity micronized Mica improves the mechanical and thermal performance of engineering plastics such as PP, Nylon, ABS, PC, PET, and PBT. It enhances flexural modulus, tensile strength, dimensional stability, dielectric properties, and heat resistance while reducing shrinkage and warpage in molded parts. Mica also improves surface appearance, barrier properties, and stiffness, making it highly suitable for automotive, electrical, and appliance applications.
Our Mica grades are widely used in automotive plastic components, electrical housings, appliances, packaging materials, furniture parts, engineering compounds, reinforced thermoplastics, SMC-BMC compounds, FRP pultrusion profiles, and decorative plastic applications. They are suitable for PP, PE, PVC, ABS, Nylon, PC, PET, and polyester-based plastic products requiring enhanced stiffness, heat resistance, and dimensional stability.
Our Mica grades provide excellent thermal stability, improved stiffness, higher flexural modulus, enhanced dimensional stability, superior electrical insulation, and better heat resistance. They reduce shrinkage and warpage, improve barrier properties, and enhance surface gloss and pearlescent appearance. The high aspect ratio platy structure also improves mechanical reinforcement, corrosion resistance, and processability in engineering plastic compounds. Additionally, our grades are free from crystalline silica and asbestos, ensuring safer and reliable performance.
